We talked about “link building” before, as a way to improve SEO and online presence of your dental practice. Some of the best ways to build links are through creating a compelling and interactive blog, and through guest blogging. But did you know that local online directories create links as well? While these “links” aren’t as organic and full of original content as blog posts, when done right they are highly credible and take a lot less time and effort to create and maintain.
Boost Organic SEO
Google and other search engines give a lot of trust to online directories- they’re popular, user-friendly and have moderating built-in, so there’s less possibility of false content and cheating the search engines than there would be on a regular website. As you may already know about link-building, credibility is everything, so having approved listings on the major directories counts for a lot with the search engines.
Increase Targeted Traffic
This is probably the most important point for using local directories. Appealing to a local audience online is one of the biggest challenges in online marketing today, and local directories help you shine here. When you submit a listing to a local directory, you are verifying that your dental practice is in a specific location- any time a user searches for dentists or dental-related offices in that location, there is a high probability that directory listings for that location will be high among the search engine results.
Fill out as much as possible. Think about when you’ve ever searched for a business and encountered a scant directory listing. It probably wasn’t helpful, and caused you to move on to look for something more informative. Though it may seem tedious, it’s important to fill out all of the fields with quality information. Some listings have options for pictures, and it’s important to include some too, if you have them.
Always include updated contact information and link to your practice’s website, if you have one.
