How to Set Attainable Goals for Dental Web Marketing

One of the most common questions marketers of all kinds face is:  How do I know this is working?

Web marketing is an ever evolving art that changes as new tools are developed and new ways of communicating are discovered. Does your practice have a brand?

While most dental practices realize that positive patient reviews and word of mouth are important to attracting and keeping patients, they may not think of themselves as a brand. But web marketing is all about brand names! Your name should be synonymous with the best aspects of your practice. For example, if you work to always keep appointments on time or provide family friend service, these should be the words most associated with your practice, which you will see in online reviews and should be reflected in the language on your website and social media accounts.

Are you engaged with your patients?

Web marketing means engaging with patients across digital platforms, and this is easily measured. An easy way to gauge if your marketing is working is how many “likes” you get on Facebook posts and photos or how often you are “@ replied” on Twitter. These numbers should be constant, or rising. If these numbers fluctuate widely or are inconsistent, that’s a sign that your web marketing goals are not being met. This can also be judged by how often your online presence is interacting with your patients and community. The web is a two way street and engagement is just like a conversation: everyone should participate!

Is your web marketing generating new leads?

This is a traditional way to measure marketing and impact, familiar across all types of marketing. When looking at web marketing, this can be judged with digital tools such that keep track of your web traffic and monitoring where your new patients hear of you, or how they decided to visit your practice.

By asking and answering these questions, you can outline attainable goals for web marketing. Your goal should always be to answer YES to these questions and see improvement each time you ask these questions. Web marketing goals are not goals you can achieve and then forget about. The true goal is on-going improvement and quality communication.
